Tour Overview
Fairy Meadows is a high alpine meadow at around 3,300m, facing the north face of Nanga Parbat (8,126m), the ninth-highest mountain in the world. With pine forests, wooden cottages and one of the most dramatic mountain views on earth, it is a highlight of any trip to Pakistan.
This 10-day Fairy Meadows and Skardu tour combines two nights in Fairy Meadows, including a walk to Beyal Camp, with the best of Skardu: Shangrila and Upper Kachura Lakes, the Deosai Plains, the Shigar cold desert, Shigar Fort and Khaplu.
It is a peaceful and romantic itinerary, which is why it is so popular with honeymoon couples and families. The best time to visit Fairy Meadows is from May to September, when the trail and jeep road are open.
Day-by-Day Plan
A 10-day plan balancing mountain adventure with relaxing days by the Skardu lakes.
Day 1
Pickup from Islamabad and drive to Chilas via Naran and the Babusar Pass (when open) or along the Karakoram Highway, around 12 to 13 hours. Overnight in Chilas.
Day 2
A 2.5-hour drive to Raikot Bridge, then a local jeep to Tato village, followed by a 3 to 4-hour hike with a local guide to Fairy Meadows. Overnight in Fairy Meadows.
Day 3
After breakfast facing Nanga Parbat, walk with our guide to Beyal Camp for close views of the mountain and glacier. Return to Fairy Meadows for a bonfire evening. Overnight in Fairy Meadows.
Day 4
Walk and jeep back to Raikot Bridge, then drive to Skardu, arriving in the evening at a hotel near Shangrila Lake. Overnight in Skardu.
Day 5
Boating on Shangrila Lake and a walk to beautiful Upper Kachura Lake, then a relaxing afternoon. Overnight in Skardu.
Day 6
A private 4×4 jeep journey to the Deosai Plains and Sheosar Lake, returning via Sadpara Lake. Overnight in Skardu.
Day 7
Photograph the sand dunes of the Shigar cold desert and visit Shigar Fort, then continue to Khaplu Valley. Overnight in Khaplu.
Day 8
Visit Khaplu Fort and the historic Chaqchan Mosque, among the oldest in Baltistan, then return to Skardu. Overnight in Skardu.
Day 9
Optional shopping in Skardu bazaar, then drive around 8 hours to Chilas along the Skardu road. Overnight in Chilas.
Day 10
An early start via the Babusar Pass (if open) to Islamabad, around 12 to 13 hours. End of the tour.

From Tato village it is a 3 to 4-hour walk on a well-used trail with a gradual climb. Most people with average fitness manage it comfortably. Horses can be arranged for those who prefer not to walk.
In simple wooden cottages or huts with mountain views. Facilities are basic but comfortable, and meals are provided by the local hosts.
May to September. In June to August the meadows are green and the weather is warmest. Nights are cold all year, so bring warm clothing.
Signal is very limited or unavailable. It is a great place to disconnect and enjoy nature.
