Tour Overview
Hunza Valley is beautiful in every season, but autumn in Hunza is truly special. From the second week of October until mid-November, the poplar, apricot and cherry trees across the valley turn vivid gold and orange. The terraced fields, stone villages and ancient forts are framed by a deep blue sky and the snowy summits of Rakaposhi, Diran and Ultar Sar.
It is also harvest season, when families dry apricots on their rooftops and the whole valley feels calm and welcoming. Clear, dry weather makes autumn the favorite time of year for photographers and for travelers who want crisp mountain views without the summer crowds. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, around 15°C, with cold nights.
Our 10-day Hunza autumn tour starts and ends in Islamabad and includes the Karakoram Highway, Karimabad, the Eagle’s Nest viewpoint, Altit and Baltit Forts, Attabad Lake and the Khunjerab Pass on the China border.
Day-by-Day Plan
A 10-day route timed for the peak of the autumn colors, with private transport and a local guide.
Day 1
Welcome to Pakistan. Our team meets you at Islamabad International Airport and transfers you to your hotel. Rest after your flight. Overnight in Islamabad.
Day 2
We drive north through the Kaghan Valley and over the Babusar Pass (or along the Karakoram Highway if the pass is closed), a journey of around 8 to 9 hours through changing mountain scenery. Overnight in Chilas.
Day 3
We follow the Indus along the Karakoram Highway, with views of Nanga Parbat and a stop at the meeting point of three great mountain ranges. Around 5 hours later we reach Karimabad, surrounded by autumn colors. Overnight in Hunza.
Day 4
A full day exploring Karimabad at 2,440m. We visit Baltit Fort and Altit Fort with its Royal Garden, walk through the old villages and orchards, and enjoy the local bazaar. Overnight in Hunza.
Day 5
A short drive up to Duikar and the Eagle’s Nest, one of the finest viewpoints in the Karakoram. Watch the light change over the golden valley and peaks such as Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar and Ladyfinger. Overnight in Hunza.
Day 6
We drive north past Attabad Lake, Gulmit and the Passu Cones, through Khunjerab National Park to the Khunjerab Pass at 4,693m, the highest paved border crossing in the world. Return to Hunza in the evening. Overnight in Hunza.
Day 7
We leave Hunza and drive back south, crossing the Babusar Pass (subject to road conditions) into the Kaghan Valley. Around 6 hours of driving. Overnight in Naran or Chilas.
Day 8
A scenic drive of around 9 hours back to Islamabad through the Kaghan Valley and Mansehra. Overnight in Islamabad.
Day 9
A relaxed day in Pakistan’s green capital. Visit Faisal Mosque, the Pakistan Monument and the Daman-e-Koh viewpoint in the Margalla Hills. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Islamabad.
Day 10
Transfer to Islamabad International Airport for your flight home. End of the Hunza autumn tour.

The colors usually start in the second week of October and peak in late October, lasting until mid-November in some villages. The exact timing depends on the weather each year.
Days are usually around 12°C to 18°C and sunny, but nights can drop to near or below freezing, especially in November. Warm layers, a down jacket and a hat are recommended.
The Khunjerab Pass is usually open to visitors until around the end of November, but snowfall can close it at short notice. If it is closed, we replace the excursion with other highlights in Upper Hunza.
